The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday (August 13) an updated schedule for the upcoming home season of the Indian men’s cricket team. According to the new update, the first T20I of the three-match series between India and Bangladesh, which was initially scheduled to take place at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Stadium in Dharamsala on October 6, will now be played in Gwalior.
The newly constructed Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium will host the match. The change in venue is because upgrades and renovation work are set to be carried out by the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the dressing rooms.
In addition to that, the BCCI also announced a swap in the venues of the first and second T20Is against England. MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, which was originally scheduled to host the first T20I, will now host the second T20I on January 25, 2025, whereas Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the opening T20I on January 22, 2025.
As per the official release, the venue change was necessitated following a request from Kolkata Police to the Cricket Association of Bengal regarding their prior Republic Day commitments and obligations.
India’s home season will start next month, when Rohit Sharma’s men will face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series. The red-ball series is set to start on September 19 in Chennai. The second Test will be played from September 27 to October 1 in Kanpur.
The three T20Is between India and Bangladesh are scheduled to take place in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad on October 6, 9, and 12, respectively.
After the Bangladesh assignment, India will face New Zealand in a three-match Test series. Bengaluru, Pune, and Mumbai will host the three matches.
After the two Test series at home, India will travel to Australia for a five-match Test series, which is set to start on November 22 in Perth.
In January, the Men in Blue will face England in five T20Is and three T20Is before taking part in the ICC Champions Trophy, which is scheduled to take place in Pakistan.
