Non-engineering graduate students from JP University can now access apprenticeship opportunities under the National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS). Dr. Rekha Kumari, Director of Higher Education, has formally instructed the university to implement the scheme through a communication sent to the Registrar.
The National Apprenticeship and Training Scheme (NATS) provides a 12-month apprenticeship program for graduates in traditional disciplines such as BA, BSc, BBA, BCA, and BCom who completed their studies after 2020. Eligible students must have the final mark sheet of their last semester or session. The program aims to boost employability by offering practical, hands-on training.

NATS Scheme Details
Under the NATS program, participants will receive a monthly incentive of ₹9,000 during the 12-month training period. The Education Department will contribute 50% of this amount, while the host establishments will cover the remaining 50%. The incentive will be directly transferred to the trainees’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
Eligible students and establishments must register on the NATS portal. After registration, a panel will shortlist trainees for placement in various establishments.
The apprenticeship training, guided by NATS, will be conducted with support from the Professional Training Board (Eastern Region), Kolkata. Students can choose between online and offline training modes.
Colleges have been directed to appoint Apprenticeship Training and Placement Officers (ATPO) and Assistant ATPOs. Institutions are required to submit officer details, including names, designations, contact information, and email addresses, to the Education Department.
Graduates from disciplines like BA, BSc, BBA, BCA, BCom, BSW, and BTM are eligible for the scheme. The training is designed to enhance the professional skills of non-technical graduates, who are increasingly sought after for office management roles in both government and private sectors.
Through this initiative, the government aims to bridge the gap between academic education and industry demands, offering students practical exposure and improved employment opportunities.
