Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment, the parent company of BookMyShow, regarding allegations of black market ticket sales for Coldplay’s upcoming concert. Hemrajani and the company’s technical head are expected to appear before investigators on September 28, 2024, following a complaint by advocate Amit Vyas. Vyas accuses BookMyShow of enabling unauthorized ticket resales for the highly anticipated concert, part of Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” World Tour in January 2025.

Tickets for Coldplay’s upcoming concert at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium went on sale via BookMyShow on September 22, with prices ranging from Rs 2,500 to Rs 35,000. However, the tickets sold out almost instantly, causing technical issues and frustration among fans. Soon after, tickets appeared on resale platforms at exorbitant prices, some reaching as high as Rs 3 lakh, leading to public outrage.

Advocate Amit Vyas filed a complaint, accusing BookMyShow of facilitating ticket scalping and calling for an FIR to be registered against the company. Vyas highlighted that third-party platforms, such as Viagogo and Gigsberg, were reselling tickets at prices far above their original value, in violation of Indian law. He is seeking fraud charges against the company for allegedly enabling bulk buying and illegal reselling practices.

BookMyShow has issued a statement denying any involvement in the black market sales of Coldplay concert tickets, following allegations of ticket scalping. The company clarified that it has no ties to third-party resellers like Viagogo or Gigsberg and urged fans to avoid purchasing tickets from unauthorized sources, warning they could be counterfeit. BookMyShow also confirmed that it is cooperating fully with the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) investigation and has filed its own police complaint against illegal scalping.

The EOW has already recorded the statement of advocate Amit Vyas, who filed the complaint, and identified several brokers allegedly involved in the black market ticket sales. As the investigation progresses, more individuals may be called for questioning as authorities intensify efforts to curb illegal ticket reselling ahead of Coldplay’s January 2025 concert in Navi Mumbai.
