Following the tragic stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which resulted in at least 30 deaths and over 60 injuries, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has introduced new guidelines aimed at improving crowd and traffic management, as well as inter-departmental coordination.

To ensure safety and control the crowd, a strict ban on the entry of four-wheelers in Prayagraj has been enforced until February 4. Devotees have been urged to follow these guidelines and cooperate to prevent any chaos.

In a late-night video conference with officials, CM Yogi noted that a large influx of devotees from Varanasi, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, and Mirzapur is expected in the coming days. He instructed officers to maintain vigilance in these cities and set up holding areas at border points, adjusting plans as needed. CM Yogi also emphasized the use of barricades to manage crowd flow and ensure proper parking within the Mela area.

The guidelines announced by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath are as follows:

  1. No-Vehicle Zone in Mela Area – All types of vehicles are prohibited from entering the Mela area.
  2. Cancellation of VVIP Passes – Vehicles will not be allowed entry through any special passes.
  3. One-Way Traffic System – Roads have been converted to one-way to ensure smooth movement of devotees.
  4. Vehicle Entry Ban – Vehicles from neighboring districts are being stopped at the district borders.
  5. Complete Ban Until February 4 – There will be a strict ban on the entry of four-wheelers in Prayagraj.

The tragic stampede has given the Opposition ammunition to criticize the state government. Congress has blamed the incident on the “VIP culture,” with Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi accusing the Yogi government of poor management and prioritizing VIP movement over ordinary pilgrims. He further stressed the need for better arrangements to prevent such incidents in the future. The criticism from Congress intensified following the presence of high-profile individuals like Union Home Minister Amit Shah, CM Yogi Adityanath, Coldplay’s Chris Martin, and actress Dakota Johnson at the Kumbh Mela.
