BENGALURU: The Consortium of Medical, Engineering, and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has announced that the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET) 2025 will take place on May 10 (Saturday), instead of the usual second Sunday of May.

In addition, the Uni-GAUGE Engineering entrance exam, which grants admissions to 55 leading universities across India, will also be held on the same day. Both exams will be conducted online as a combined single test to ease the process for students, according to COMEDK officials.

COMEDK Executive Secretary Dr. S Kumar explained that the exam date was moved due to a shortage of computer terminals. “Since the pandemic, the number of applicants for the COMEDK and Uni-GAUGE exams has been steadily increasing to pre-COVID levels. We expect an additional 20,000 applications this year, making it necessary to shift the exam to a Saturday to ensure adequate test center availability,” Kumar said.

Registrations for UGET 2025 will open on February 3, and candidates must submit their applications by March 15. Last year, 1.16 lakh students registered for the exam, with a 92% attendance rate, while Karnataka students had a 93% participation rate.

The exam will be held across 200 towns nationwide, including 26 cities in Karnataka. Outside the state, the highest number of applicants is expected from Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Himachal Pradesh. For states with over 3,000 applicants, COMEDK has arranged for at least four to five exam centers to accommodate the demand.

In previous years, COMEDK’s counselling process was held before KCET due to overlaps with the All-India and State Medical Counselling schedules. However, this year, officials are working to align COMEDK’s counselling timeline with KCET. Dr. S Kumar stated, “Synchronizing the timelines would benefit students and enhance seat allocation efficiency. COMEDK is collaborating with CET authorities to streamline the process.”

Recognizing the growing demand for fields like Machine Learning, AI, Robotics, IoT, and Prototype Design, COMEDK has established 10 innovation centres across Karnataka over the past two years. These centres are open to all students, regardless of their college affiliation, and offer four-month training courses at a nominal fee of Rs 1,500 per course. Kumar mentioned that COMEDK has set up four centres in Bengaluru and one each in Mysuru, Mangaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, Tumakuru, and Hubballi.
