India defeated England by nine wickets at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Friday to secure a spot in the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup final. Chasing a target of 114, India reached it comfortably in just 15 overs. Opener G. Kamalini remained unbeaten on 56 off 50 balls, leading her team to victory. Her 60-run opening partnership with Gongadi Trisha laid the foundation for a smooth chase.

Earlier, after choosing to bat, England got off to a strong start. However, after a 37-run opening partnership between Davina Perrin and Jemima Spence, they lost two quick wickets. Perrin and captain Abi Norgrove then added 44 runs for the third wicket to stabilize the innings. With England at 81 for two, India’s spin trio of Aayushi Shukla, Parunika Sisodia, and Vaishnavi Sharma struck, picking up six wickets for just 11 runs, leaving England at 92 for eight by the 16th over.

With only 113 for eight on the board after 20 overs, defending such a small total was always going to be a tough challenge against the defending champions.

India and England had previously met in the final of the inaugural ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup in 2023, where the Shafali Verma-led Indian team won the title by seven wickets.

This time, India will face South Africa in the final, set to take place on Sunday at the same venue. Earlier, South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets in the first semifinal.
