Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 7 : With the political climate intensifying in poll-bound Jharkhand, Union Minister and BJP state in-charge Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Monday that the party is committed to implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state, accusing the Hemant Soren-led government of favoring infiltrators.
Chouhan stressed the BJP’s resolve to safeguard “Roti, Mati aur Beti” (livelihood, land, and daughters). He stated, “This election is not just about electing a Chief Minister or gaining power; it is about saving Jharkhand. We are determined to protect ‘Roti, Mati aur Beti.’ The region’s demographic balance is rapidly shifting due to Bangladeshi infiltrators. In the past, the tribal population in the Santhal region stood at over 44 percent, but it has now decreased to 28 percent. These infiltrators are severely impacting the population.”
Shivraj Singh Chouhan further accused the Hemant Soren-led government of indulging in vote-bank politics by favoring infiltrators. “We will implement the NRC in Jharkhand, where local residents will be registered, and infiltrators will be identified and expelled,” Chouhan added.
On October 5, the BJP unveiled its ‘Paanch Prana’ (Five Pledges) for the youth and women of Jharkhand as part of its election manifesto for the upcoming assembly elections. The five key promises include Yuva Sathi, Gogo Didi Yojana, Ghar Saakar, Laxmi Johar, and ‘Assured Employment.’
Under the Gogo Didi Yojana, women will receive financial assistance of ₹2,100 per month. As part of the ‘Assured Employment’ guarantee, the party has pledged to provide 5 lakh jobs to the youth over the next five years.
Under its ‘Ghar Saakar’ promise, the BJP aims to ensure housing for all. As part of the Yuva Sathi scheme, ₹2,000 in financial assistance will be provided to youth preparing for competitive exams. Both graduate and postgraduate students will benefit from this support.
In addition, the BJP has pledged to fill over two lakh vacant government positions in the state. The recruitment process will begin with the first cabinet meeting, and by 2025, the party plans to complete the recruitment of 1 lakh government jobs.
As part of the ‘Paanch Prana,’ the BJP’s Laxmi Johar initiative promises to provide financial assistance of ₹500 for gas cylinders to every family in the state, along with two free gas cylinders each year, especially during festivals.
Jharkhand is expected to hold elections for its 81-member legislative assembly by December 2024, as the current government’s term ends in January 2025. The Election Commission has yet to announce the election schedule.
In the 2020 assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won 30 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured 25, and the Congress claimed 16.
