A worrying news has emerged from Arunachal Pradesh. According to multiple media reports, readouts released by the Indian Army and statements made by Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in both Houses of Parliament, hundreds of Chinese troops transgressed into what India considers its side of the LAC.and unilaterally sought to change the status quo in the Yangtse sector of the state’s Tawang sector on the morning of December 9 (Friday), before they were intercepted, confronted and dispersed by Indian troops.

The status of the disputed area, about 35 km from Tawang, is disputed on the basis of mutual agreement. The incident came to light on Monday.

In the ensuing “physical scuffle”, which did not involve firearms but crude weapons such as iron rods, nail-studded clubs, monkey fists and Taser guns, several soldiers on both sides suffered injuries. The count is reportedly higher on the Chinese side. The Defense Minister told Parliament that no Indian soldier died or was seriously injured.
