Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, has expressed her support for the Calcutta High Court’s ruling that directs the cricketer to pay ₹4 lakh per month as interim maintenance—₹1.5 lakh for her and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter. The verdict follows years of legal disputes and public controversy surrounding the couple.
Reacting to the Calcutta High Court’s verdict, Hasin Jahan expressed relief, stating that she had no choice but to seek legal intervention after Mohammed Shami allegedly failed to provide sufficient financial support.
“Thank God there’s a law in our country that holds people accountable,” Jahan said. “I have no independent income. Shami must take full responsibility for our maintenance. That’s why we were forced to go to court when he refused.”
Jahan, who married Shami in 2014, revealed that she gave up her modelling and acting career at his insistence and has faced financial hardship ever since.
“I used to model and act before our marriage, but Shami made me give it up. He wanted me to live only as a housewife. I loved him and agreed,” Hasin Jahan said, reflecting on her sacrifices.

She further accused Mohammed Shami of neglecting their daughter’s future and questioned his character, claiming she had been misled at the time of their marriage.
“When you enter a relationship, you don’t really know the other person’s true character,” Hasin Jahan said. “I had no idea he would jeopardize both my future and our daughter’s. Even God forgives the gravest sinners, yet Shami refuses to consider our daughter’s well-being. He must let go of this stubborn determination to ruin my life.”
Jahan’s comments came in response to the Calcutta High Court’s recent order directing Mohammed Shami to pay ₹4 lakh per month in interim maintenance—₹1.5 lakh for Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter.
The ruling revised a 2023 sessions court decision that had earlier awarded significantly lower sums—₹50,000 for Jahan and ₹80,000 for the child. Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee noted that the earlier amount did not adequately reflect Shami’s current financial status.
“In view of the materials placed before me… the quantum of interim monetary relief as fixed by the court below requires revision,” the court order stated.
The court also emphasized that “the petitioner’s wife, who remains unmarried and is living independently with the child, is entitled to a standard of maintenance similar to what she enjoyed during the marriage—ensuring both her and her daughter’s future.”
In 2018, Hasin Jahan filed an FIR against Mohammed Shami and his family, accusing them of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and even match-fixing—allegations that have resurfaced in recent legal proceedings. At the time, Jahan had sought ₹7 lakh per month for herself and ₹3 lakh for their daughter as interim maintenance.
