According to a statement from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the National Career Service (NCS) portal registered a record-breaking 35.7 lakh vacancies during the 2022-23 period, compared to approximately 13 lakh vacancies in the previous year.
The NCS project is being implemented as a Mission Mode Project by the Ministry of Labour and Employment to provide a range of employment-related services, such as job matching, vocational guidance, career counselling, information on internships and skill development courses, among others.
These services are available online and were inaugurated by the Prime Minister in 2015.
The NCS portal has seen an increase of 175% in the reporting of vacancies in 2022-23, with the highest number of active vacancies being reported on October 30, 2022.
The rise in vacancy posting has been observed across all sectors, including the finance and insurance sector, which recorded 20.8 lakh vacancies during 2022-23 compared to 2.2 lakh vacancies in the previous year, representing an increase of more than 800%.
The operations and support sector also experienced a 400% growth, with 3.75 lakh vacancies reported in 2022-23.
Furthermore, during the 2022-23 period, the NCS portal achieved a milestone of registering more than 1 million employers since its launch, with over 8 lakh employers registered in 2022-23.
All the services provided by the NCS portal, including jobseeker services, employer services, training provider services, and placement organization services, are free of cost for all stakeholders.
