Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on September 26 disclosed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi rejected the state’s request for a GIFT (Gujarat International Finance Tec) City, asserting there can be only one such city in the country. In response, the state is now focused on elevating its own KWIN (Knowledge, Wellbeing, and Innovation) City.

Shivakumar emphasized that KWIN City will prioritize sustainability and improve the quality of life for residents. He also reaffirmed his commitment to Bengaluru’s development, highlighting the city’s intellectual legacy and the state’s potential to thrive in innovation and industry.

Shivakumar stressed the city’s robust talent pool and industrial capabilities, reaffirming Bengaluru’s pivotal role in India’s economic growth. He pointed out Karnataka’s leadership in exports, particularly in software, and reiterated the government’s backing for industries with the KWIN City initiative. “Let’s make this project a reality and ensure Bengaluru continues as a prime driver of India’s future growth,” he said.
