The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 review conference was called by BCCI on Sunday Jan 2023 to discuss Team India's dismal performance, which included an embarrassing 10-wicket loss to England in the semi-finals. The board has selected 20 players for the ICC World Cup 2023, which will be held in India in October. India crashed out of the T20 World Cup after suffering a crushing 10-wicket defeat to England in the semi-finals of the first tournament in November.
The meeting was attended by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, Indian captain Rohit Sharma, India head coach Rahul Dravid, NCA head of cricket VVS Laxman and senior men’s selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma. The roadmap for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as well as players’ availability, workload management and fitness parameters were also discussed during the meeting. Keeping the World Cup in mind, 20 players have been selected.
Many important suggestions were given in the meeting. One of them was that emerging players would have to play enough domestic seasons to be eligible for selection in the national team. The yo-yo test and dexa will now be part of the selection criteria and will be implemented in the customized roadmap for the central pool of players. Keeping in mind the preparations for the FTP and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, the National Cricket Academy will work closely with the IPL franchises to monitor targeted Indian players participating in IPL 2023.
