Big e-Aadhaar Overhaul Coming Soon!
In the next few weeks, Aadhaar is set to get a major digital upgrade. A new QR code-based system will allow users to share their Aadhaar digitally—no more need for physical photocopies. Individuals will have the option to share either the full or masked version of their Aadhaar details.
By November, the UIDAI plans to roll out a simplified update mechanism that will minimize the need to visit Aadhaar centres. Except for biometric updates, changes like address modifications will be automated by linking Aadhaar with verified databases such as birth certificates, school records, driving licences, passports, PAN cards, PDS, and MNREGA systems.

This initiative is designed to make the process easier for citizens and reduce document-related fraud. The government is also exploring the inclusion of electricity bill records to further streamline updates and improve accessibility.
UIDAI’s chief executive officer Bhuvnesh Kumar has informed TOI about a newly developed application, with approximately 2,000 out of one lakh machines already utilising this new system.
“You will soon be able to do everything sitting at home other than providing fingerprints and IRIS,” he said.
