The Supreme Court of India recently granted interim protection from arrest to YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia after multiple FIRs were filed against him for allegedly making obscene remarks on India Got Latent.

While providing temporary relief, the court strongly criticized Allahabadia’s comments, calling his language “perverted” and “dirty,” emphasizing the gravity of the matter. As part of the conditions, he was ordered to surrender his passport, cooperate with the ongoing investigation, and refrain from hosting any shows until further notice.

In a controversial defense, Abhinav Chandrachud compared Ranveer Allahabadia’s remarks to those made by Nupur Sharma, arguing that her statements were “much worse.” This comparison ignited a wave of backlash on social media, with many criticizing both Chandrachud and Allahabadia for the analogy.

During the court proceedings, Justice Suryakant strongly condemned Allahabadia’s statements. Chandrachud, however, defended his client by highlighting the threats Allahabadia had received, including an acid attack threat directed at a co-accused.

The courtroom argument triggered intense reactions online, with netizens expressing shock over Chandrachud’s comparison. Social media was flooded with comments questioning the justification of using Sharma’s case as a defense, with many decrying the analogy and its broader implications.

One user on X wrote, Nupur Sharma faced legal FIRs, threats, and was targeted by pseudo-secularists for simply stating a fact against the insult of her lord. But now, Ranveer Allahabadia’s team is calling it ‘worse’ in the Supreme Court to escape legal consequences. The audacity to compare him with Nupur Sharma!”

Another user posted, “Nupur Sharma’s life has become miserable due to threats from the STSJ gangs. She can’t even step out peacefully in public. Tragic that a lawyer is justifying her hounding by lynch mobs just to defend his client, Beer Biceps.”

Another netizen shared, “Ranveer Allahabadia’s lawyer in the Supreme Court is now justifying everything he already apologized for! His lawyer dragged Nupur Sharma into this and called her statement ‘worse’—when she simply quoted a fact against the insult of her lord! They will paint society and everyone else as evil but won’t look within.”

Earlier today, the Supreme Court criticized Ranveer Allahabadia’s conduct before granting him interim protection from arrest. While offering him relief, the court also directed that he should not accompany the authorities to the police station.
