Indian men’s cricketers’ families will reportedly not be accompanying them to the UAE for the 2025 Champions Trophy, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) enforces its new policy.
This policy, introduced after the team’s 3-1 defeat in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, restricts families from traveling on tours shorter than 45 days. For longer tours, families are permitted to join for up to two weeks for every 45 days.

The Champions Trophy will kick off on February 19, with India’s campaign beginning the following day against Bangladesh. All of India’s matches will take place in the UAE, while the remaining fixtures will go ahead as scheduled in Pakistan, under the hybrid model agreed upon by the boards.
“If anything changes, then it’s a different situation, but as of now, players are unlikely to be accompanied by their wives or partners for this tour,” an official told news agency PTI. “One senior player inquired about it and was informed that the policy will be followed. Since the tour is under a month, families won’t be traveling with the players. However, if exceptions are made, the individual would have to bear the full costs, as the BCCI will not cover any expenses,” the official added.
The BCCI policy document was leaked to the media, outlining the new regulations regarding players’ families during overseas tours. The document states, “Players absent from India for more than 45 days during overseas tours can be joined by their partners and children (under 18) for one visit per series (format-wise) of up to a two-week period. Any deviation from this policy must be pre-approved by the coach, captain, and GM Operations. Additional expenses outside the visitors’ period will not be covered by the BCCI.”

The report also mentioned that families will be allowed to join the team during the five-Test tour of England in June-July-August, following the IPL 2025 season. The specific two-week window for their stay will be determined closer to the tour.
Additionally, the official quoted in the report confirmed that other rules from the policy, such as mandatory participation in domestic cricket and the team traveling together for matches, have already been enforced.
“If you look at it, already no player can ask for a private vehicle to come for practice. All state units have been notified. Similarly, once the players assembled in Kolkata (for the T20I series against England) and Nagpur (for the ODI series against the same side), the team has traveled together,” an official stated.
The report concluded by mentioning that, having already restricted the travel of personal chefs and secretaries for players, the BCCI is now planning to hire a few chefs to meet the specific dietary requirements of certain players.
