Champions Trophy 2025: India to Play Matches in Dubai
The Indian men’s cricket team will play its ICC Champions Trophy 2025 matches in Dubai. According to a report by AFP on Sunday (December 22), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has selected Dubai in the United Arab Emirates as a neutral venue for the tournament.
“Pakistan has chosen Dubai as the neutral venue for the Champions Trophy, and it has been conveyed to the ICC officially, meaning India will play its matches there,” a PCB spokesperson told AFP.
The announcement follows the ICC’s confirmation that all of India’s matches in the eight-team Champions Trophy 2025 will take place outside Pakistan. Under the same agreement, Pakistan will play at a neutral venue for any ICC event hosted by India until 2027. This arrangement resolves a month-long standoff between the two cricketing archrivals.
In addition to India and Pakistan, the 2025 Champions Trophy will feature two-time champions Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. The tournament is expected to be held from February 19 to March 9, 2025.
India-Pakistan Matches in Dubai
India has not traveled to Pakistan for any cricket matches since July 2008. Over the past 16 years, India and Pakistan have frequently faced each other in the United Arab Emirates. Notably, the India-Pakistan encounters during the 2018 and 2022 Asia Cup tournaments were held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The electrifying clash between the two teams in the 2021 T20 World Cup was also hosted at the same venue.
Champions Trophy 2025 Schedule Expected This Week
The ICC is expected to release the schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 this week. The previous edition of the tournament was held in 2017, where Pakistan secured their maiden Champions Trophy title by defeating India by 180 runs in the final.
Australia holds the record as the most successful team in Champions Trophy history, winning the title twice alongside their six ODI World Cup victories. India claimed the title in 2013 by defeating England in the final and shared the 2002 trophy with Sri Lanka after the final was washed out due to rain. Other winners of the tournament include South Africa, New Zealand, the West Indies, and Pakistan, each with one title to their name.
