Ex-cricketer Muralitharan to invest Rs 1,400 crore in a beverages unit in Karnataka

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan is expanding business in Karnataka with an investment of Rs 1,400 crore in phases, to set up a soft drinks and confectionery manufacturing unit in the Chamarajanagar district, the office of State’s Large and Medium Industries Minister MB Patil said on June 18.

Minister Patil felicitated the former cricketer and shared pictures through his social media handle X, “a Rs 1,000 crore manufacturing facility is currently under development in Chamarajanagar district, with plans to escalate investment to Rs. 1,400 crore. He remains committed to continuing operations in Dharwad”, he added.

The meeting ‘focused on coordination, with department officials actively facilitating necessary support’, Patil said.

The proposed factory is being set up under the name of Muttiah Beverages and Confectioneries. The project for which 46 acres of land has already been allocated was initially planned at an investment of Rs 230 crore, but has been revised higher, the minister’s office said.
