The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved a hybrid model for the 2025 Champions Trophy, with matches set to be hosted in Pakistan and Dubai as part of an agreement between the PCB and BCCI. Furthermore, both boards have agreed on arrangements for the 2026 T20 World Cup, confirming that Pakistan will not travel to India for their league-stage clash against India, which will instead take place in Colombo.

Although the PCB will not receive financial compensation for this arrangement, they have secured the hosting rights for an ICC Women’s tournament after 2027. The agreement has been positively received by all stakeholders, facilitating seamless planning for these marquee events while addressing logistical and geopolitical challenges.

BCCI and PCB Have Agreed in Principle That Pakistan Will Not Travel to India for the India-Pakistan Match in the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Match Will Take Place in Sri Lanka, Co-Hosting the Event.
PCB Will Not Receive Compensation for Missing India Matches. In Return, They Will Host an ICC Women’s Tournament After 2027.
All Three Parties – ICC, BCCI, and PCB – Are Satisfied with the Development.
Reports Indicate that ICC is Facing Challenges in Meeting Contractual Obligations, Especially with Deadline Pressures. Broadcasters Are Struggling to Market the Event Effectively, With the 90-day Deadline Already Exceeded. This Delay Has Led to Speculation About Potential Calls to Transition the Champions Trophy to a T20 Format, Which is Considered Easier to Market Due to Its Faster Pace and Growing Popularity Over ODIs, Which Are Seen as Losing Relevance.

In an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, a source dismissed these claims as mere rumors, stating that the tournament will continue in the 50-over format. “Switching to T20I would be a substantial setback,” the source emphasized. “Players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from T20Is at the international level, would be unable to take part, which would significantly affect the tournament’s appeal.”
