Jewar airport phase 1 to be ready by 2024; Jyotiraditya Scindia says ‘project to boost development, employment opportunities’

Noida International airport is billed to be India’s largest upon completion in four phases and will be spread over an area of 5,000 sq hectares.

The first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar is likely to open for commercial flights by the end of 2024 with one runway and a terminal building while trial flights are expected four-to-six months before that.

Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya Scindia took to the microblogging site to share a drone video of the under construction site. He said the work on the Rs 10,056 crore project will be completed by next year.

Scindia on Twitter said, “The evidence of the ever-expanding wings of India’s civil aviation is the International Airport of Noida located in Jewar (Uttar Pradesh), where construction work is going on a war footing.”

“To be built at a cost of Rs 10,056 crore and with an annual capacity of 7 crore passengers, the work (Phase 1) of this airport will be completed by next year. With the operation of Jewar Airport, the doors of prosperity of the surrounding areas will open and the possibilities of employment and self-employment for the local residents will also increase,” he added.

PTI in its earlier report quoted Project COO Kiran Jain saying, “The first phase would be spread in an area of over 1,300 hectares and is expected to be ready by the end of next year.” There will be a 3,900-metre-long runway and a terminal building with an annual passenger handling capacity of 1.2 crore upon completion of the first phase.”

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG, is developing the greenfield airport at Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar, some 75 km off Delhi, for the Uttar Pradesh government.
