FASTag Annual Toll Pass: Price and Validity
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is reportedly planning to introduce annual and lifetime toll passes for private vehicle owners, aiming to simplify highway travel and reduce costs. As per media sources, these new passes would be integrated with the existing FASTag system for seamless toll collection. However, it’s important to note that both the annual and lifetime passes are currently under proposal and have not yet been officially launched or implemented.

The proposed FASTag annual and lifetime passes aim to streamline highway travel by eliminating the hassle of frequent recharges and reducing congestion at toll plazas. Designed to function within the existing FASTag infrastructure, the system would not require any additional devices or documentation, reflecting a modern and user-friendly approach to toll collection in India. Additionally, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways is exploring a dual-payment model under the new toll regime, allowing users to choose between a fixed Annual Pass and a distance-based toll payment option.
FASTag Annual Toll Pass: Price and Validity
Under the proposed system, a one-time FASTag recharge of ₹3,000 would enable private vehicle owners to travel across all national highways, state expressways, and other major expressways without paying additional tolls for an entire year. This move aims to simplify travel by eliminating the need for regular FASTag top-ups for each trip.

Lifetime FASTag Toll Pass: Price and Validity
As part of the broader toll reform, the government had initially proposed a lifetime FASTag pass priced at ₹30,000, offering validity for 15 years. However, this proposal has reportedly been shelved for now and is not part of the current implementation plan.
Distance-Based FASTag Toll Pass: Price and Validity
For occasional highway users, the government is considering a distance-based toll model, potentially charging a flat rate of ₹50 per 100 kilometers. Commonly referred to as a “pay-as-you-go” system, this model aims to offer a more flexible and fair toll structure compared to the existing toll plaza-based charges.
Will Existing FASTag Users Need New Accounts?
No major changes are required for current FASTag users. As per reports, existing users will be able to transition into the new toll regime without updating account details or submitting any additional documentation. The proposed annual pass will operate seamlessly through the current FASTag infrastructure.
New Toll Pass System Features
According to The Times of India, the revamped toll system is expected to significantly enhance traffic flow and streamline highway travel. Key features of the proposal include:
- Elimination of traditional toll booths
- Sensor-based digital toll collection for barrier-free travel
- Integration of GPS and automated vehicle tracking to manage toll deductions
Currently, private vehicle owners can purchase a monthly FASTag pass for ₹340, valid at a single toll plaza. Over a year, this adds up to ₹4,080—making the proposed ₹3,000 annual nationwide pass a more economical and comprehensive option if implemented.
