Uttar Pradesh chief minister addressed public meetings in Mathura, Firozabad and Agra on Thursday as part of the campaign for the forthcoming civic polls, which will be held in two phases on May 4 and 11.

Addressing a public meeting in Mathura, Yogi said, “Before 2017, meat and liquor used to be sold in Mathura, but after BJP came to office we decided to ban these in the holy city, as the place was earlier known for its ‘rivers of milk!.”

The CM said that BJP neither discriminates against anyone nor allows anarchy. “We asked the people that sold liquor and meat to sell milkshakes, vegetables, and not mess with the sanctity of the holy city,” he added.

“Earlier, people used to roam around with guns and extort money, but today youths roam around with tablets, as we have distributed nearly 2 crore tablets among the students of the state,” Yogi added. “Today, work is being planned and executed on a large scale. Now, Chaurasi Kosi Parikrama will not happen just in Ayodhya dham but also happen in Brajdham,” said Yogi. He said the formation of the Mathura- Vrindavan Municipal Corporation in 2017 and then the Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad have taken forward the action plan of overall development. He urged the people to vote for the BJP candidate to form a “triple-engine” government for progress. Pointing out that UP received investment proposals worth Rs 35 lakh crore during the Global Investors Summit 2023 he said it will generate employment opportunities to 50,000 youths in the Braj region alone.

Speaking in Agra, he said the cities in UP are transforming into smart cities and shedding their previous reputation as garbage dumps.

“Agra’s image has changed now. It is not what it was like six years back when there were piles of garbage everywhere. Soon, Agra will also get the gift of the metro.”

“India has changed today and we must join this process of change. Today, major infrastructure and construction projects like airports, IITs and AIIMS are completed within schedule. Places like Kashi, Ayodhya, Kedarnath and

Mahakal are rejuvenated because of respect for heritage.

This is the new India.”

“It is our responsibility to bring back the splendour of Barsana, Gokul and Govardhan,” he said.
