The MP/MLA court in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, issued a non-bailable warrant against former Rajya Sabha MP and actor Jaya Prada after she skipped multiple court appearances. This was the seventh warrant issued against Jaya Prada and the court also directed the Superintendent of Rampur Police to arrest her.

Jaya Prada has been named in two cases from 2019 where it was alleged that she violated the election code of conduct. She contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from Rampur on a BJP ticket.

An official told India Today that one case was registered at the Camri Police Station and the other at the Swar Police Station. The prosecution testimony has been completed and Jaya Prada’s statement has to be recorded under Section 313 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The court has set multiple dates for Jaya Prada to give her statement but she failed to appear every time following which non-bailable warrants were issued against her.

She did not arrive in court on Tuesday as well, after which another non-bailable warrant was issued in connection with both cases.

The next date of hearing in the case is February 27.
