Arshad Nadeem’s historic gold medal for Pakistan in the Paris Olympics 2024, javelin throw final has catapulted him into the echelons of sporting history. Arshad came up with a mammoth throw of 92.97m in the final, shattering the Olympic Games record, not once, but twice. In his latest attempt, Nadeem threw the javelin 91.79m far, which itself would have won him gold as Neeraj Chopra’s only valid throw was at 89.45m.
After winning Pakistan’s first individual Olympic medal in 32 years, Arshad is in line to receive plenty of gifts, honours, and cash prizes for helping Pakistan finish in 62nd place in Paris Olympics.
List of all the cash prize, gifts, and honours Arshad Nadeem is set to receive:
First of all, the International Olympic Committee doesn’t award any prize money to athletes who win gold, but the World Atheltics had announced before the Paris Olympics that athletes who win gold in track and field events would be rewarded with a prize money of USD 50,000 or Rs 41,97,552 in Indian rupees for this accomplishment.
Furthermore, Nadeem will pocket a staggering prize money of PKR 150 million from the Pakistan government, which roughly equates to ₹4.5 crore or $538,000. As per Pakistani news outlet Dawn, the Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a reward of PKR 100 million.
The 27-year-old will also collect a PKR 2 million reward from Punjab governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan. Sindh CM and Sindh governor Kamran Tessori announced a cash prize of PKR 50 million and 1 million respectively.
Renowned Pakistani singer Ali Zafar announced a reward of PKR 1 million, and former cricketer Ahmad Shahzad also guaranteed similar prize money through his foundation.
Nadeem would also be recommended by the government to receive the Hilal-i-Imtiaz award. Pakistani-American businessman Ali Sheikhani will be gifting the javelin champion a “brand new Alto car” as soon Nadeem returns to his home country from Paris.
Another interesting tribute to Nadeem has been from Pakistan’s premium solar energy company Beacon Energy, who will gift him a solar energy system.
Arshad Nadeem will also be felicitated with a gold crown, a new sports stadium named after him will be made in Sukkur, and a new sports academy after his name will also be set up in Karachi.
Arshad’s own father in law gifted him a buffalo, which is a rich sign of tradition in his village. Muhammad Nawaz told the local media in Nadeem’s village on Sunday that gifting a buffalo is considered “very valuable” and “honourable” in their village. “Nadeem also takes great pride in his roots and despite the success, his home still remains his village and he still lives with his parents and brothers,” said Nawaz.
