A complaint has been filed against Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi over remarks on President Droupadi Murmu. Muzaffarpur-based lawyer Sudhir Ojha has accused them of disrespecting India’s highest constitutional authority and sought legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case is set for hearing in a Bihar court on 10 February.

The controversy surrounding Congress leaders Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi erupted after Sonia Gandhi’s comment about President Droupadi Murmu‘s address to Parliament. Sonia remarked that the President appeared “tired” and “could hardly speak,” while Rahul dismissed the speech as “boring.” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was present during the exchange. The Rashtrapati Bhavan condemned the remarks, calling them “unacceptable” and emphasizing that Murmu remained composed throughout her speech, asserting that speaking for marginalized communities “can never be tiring.”

The controversy over Congress leaders’ remarks on President Droupadi Murmu sparked a fierce political backlash. BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief JP Nadda, condemned the comments, accusing Congress of insulting the tribal leader and disrespecting marginalized communities. BJP ministers demanded an apology from Sonia Gandhi. In response, Congress defended her, alleging the BJP twisted her words for political gain. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also pointed out the BJP’s previous disrespect toward President Murmu by excluding her from significant events like the new Parliament building inauguration.

Priyanka Gandhi defended her mother, Sonia Gandhi, saying that her remarks about President Droupadi Murmu were misrepresented and that Sonia had “utmost respect” for Murmu. Priyanka explained that Sonia’s comment was simply about the President being tired after a long speech. As the political storm grows, all eyes are now on the Bihar court’s ruling on 10 February, which will decide the legal action against the Congress leaders. The controversy remains a major point of focus in the BJP’s campaign against the opposition.
