India delivered a commanding performance to defend their U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title, defeating South Africa by nine wickets at the JB Marks Oval, Kuala Lumpur.

After a clinical bowling effort skittled South Africa out for just 82 in 20 overs, India’s batters chased the target with ease.

Despite losing Kamalini Gunalan early for 8, Gongadi Trisha (44* off 33) and Sanika Chalke (26* off 22) ensured a comfortable victory, reaching the target in just 11.2 overs.

South Africa’s Struggles with the Bat

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, South Africa had a nightmare start, losing Simone Lourens for a duck in the opening over. Jemma Botha (16) provided some resistance, but wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.

Captain Kayla Reyneke and wicketkeeper Karabo Meso struggled to build momentum as India’s disciplined bowling attack kept them under pressure. Mieke van Voorst (23 off 18) and Fay Cowling (15 off 20) offered brief hope, but with no significant partnerships, South Africa crumbled to 82 all out.

India’s Bowling Brilliance

Gongadi Trisha shone with the ball, taking 3/15 to dismantle the middle order. Parunika Sisodia (2/6) and Aayushi Shukla (2/9) provided crucial breakthroughs, while Vaishnavi Sharma (2/23) cleaned up the tail to ensure South Africa never gained momentum.

India’s Confident Chase

Chasing a modest target, India remained in control despite the early loss of Gunalan. Trisha anchored the innings with a fluent 44*, striking eight boundaries, while Chalke’s composed 26* ensured an emphatic finish, securing India’s second consecutive U19 World Cup triumph.
