Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as a member of the Standing Committee on Defence, chaired by BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh. The parliament’s restructuring of 24 key committees also sees Congress MP Shashi Tharoor leading the Foreign Affairs Committee, with BJP MP Arun Govil as a member.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey will chair the Communications and Information Technology Committee, while actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut joins her first parliamentary role on the same panel. Veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh will head the committee on Women, Education, Youth, and Sports Affairs, and SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav will lead the Health Affairs Committee.
Standing committees play a critical role in reviewing union ministries, scrutinizing bills, and shaping policy recommendations.
Radha Mohan Das Agarwal to Lead Home Affairs Committee; Anurag Thakur, Sunil Tatkare Among Key Appointments in Parliamentary Restructuring
In a recent reshuffling of parliamentary standing committees, BJP leader Radha Mohan Das Agarwal has been appointed head of the Home Affairs Committee, while Bhartruhari Mahtab will chair the Finance Committee. Other significant appointments include Anurag Thakur leading the Coal, Mines, and Steel Committee, and CM Ramesh chairing the Railways Committee.
Sunil Tatkare of the NCP will lead the Petroleum and Natural Gas Committee, with Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Appa Barne heading the Energy Committee. Congress leaders Charanjit Singh Channi and Saptagiri Ulaka have been given charge of the Agriculture and Rural Development Committees, respectively.
Notably, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is absent from the list of committee leadership appointments.
