A small-time shopkeeper from Palamu, Jharkhand, saw his life change overnight as he became an instant millionaire.

Ravi Kumar, son of Mahendra Mehta and a resident of Teliyaband near Chianki railway station—just a few kilometers from Palamu district headquarters—won a whopping ₹3 crore on the Dream11 platform on the night of April 9. The unexpected jackpot has brought immense joy and a wave of relief to his entire family.

For weeks, Ravi’s family had been hounding him about the mysterious disappearance of ₹5 lakh from the shop’s accounts. The pressure was mounting, and accusations flew thick and fast. But through it all, Ravi remained calm—and hopeful. He kept telling his family that something big was on the horizon.

That faith finally paid off.

By carefully crafting a winning team on the Dream11 app, Ravi clinched a life-changing ₹3 crore jackpot. Speaking to Local 18, he shared that he had only aimed to win ₹1 lakh and had invested just ₹49 to enter. But when a crucial wicket fell during the match, his team rocketed to the top of the leaderboard, securing the grand prize.

The mood at home instantly shifted. Joy replaced tension, and disbelief gave way to celebration. Overcome with emotion, Ravi hugged his mother tightly, tears of joy streaming down his face.

The windfall couldn’t have come at a better time. Ravi’s family had long depended on the modest earnings from their small grocery store. With their house half-built and little agricultural land to fall back on, the ₹3 crore win promises to rewrite their future—offering comfort, stability, and dreams finally within reach.

Ravi has been playing Dream11 since 2018, crafting over 621 teams using two separate accounts. Despite racking up losses amounting to ₹5 lakh over the years, and enduring relentless criticism from his family for what they saw as reckless spending, Ravi never gave up on his dream.

His mother, in particular, often scolded him for using money meant for their grocery shop. She suspected something was amiss—especially when Ravi would pause his daily chores or even stop his car just to create his fantasy teams, always glued to his mobile screen.

But everything changed when the prize money landed in his account. Even then, disbelief lingered in the household until the amount was officially transferred to his mother’s account. That moment turned skepticism into stunned joy.

While the ₹3 crore prize is subject to a 30% GST deduction, Ravi is not deterred. He plans to use the remaining money to uplift his family’s living conditions, complete their unfinished home, and secure a better future for them all.
